Nestled within a lush tropical forest in Northside, Grand Cayman, Cayman Crystal Caves is the island’s newest and most captivating nature attraction.

Every visit includes a guided walking tour, approximately 1.5 hours long, leading you through the surrounding tropical forest and into three breathtaking caves.

Accompanied by a knowledgeable Tour Guide, you’ll embark on an adventure into “Cayman Down Under”, where nature has crafted stunning underground landscapes over millions of years. Marvel at the otherworldly formations of stalactites and stalagmites, formed drop by drop over centuries. As you explore, you’ll also journey through a unique tropical forest, rich with vibrant plant and animal life, including strangler balsam trees, air plants, parrots, and bats.

What to Bring
For your comfort, we recommend wearing light, breathable clothing suitable for warm weather and sturdy walking shoes for exploring the caves and forest trails.

Origin
Naturally Created Marvel

The caves began forming under the sea. As sea levels changed and land rose, water erosion created underground chambers. Rainwater seeping through limestone ceilings deposited calcium, leading to the development of stalactites and stalagmites—a process that continues today.

Pirate Hideout
A Secret Refuge for Pirates

Pirates utilized the caves as hideouts and shelters from hurricanes. Local legends suggest that pirate treasures might still be hidden within the caves.

Guano Mining and Farming
Agricultural Use

As the Cayman Islands became populated, locals used the surrounding lush lands as farmlands and mined the caves for rich fertilizer produced by bat guano.

Exploration & Development
A Vision for a Tourist Attraction

Christian and Ole Sorensen conducted an extensive exploration of the Cayman Islands' caves. Recognizing the uniqueness of the Old Man Bay crystal caves, they initiated discussions with the government to develop a tourist attraction, drawing from their experience with Harrison's Cave in Barbados.

After decades of land acquisition and planning, the Cayman Crystal Caves officially opened to the public, offering guided tours to showcase the natural beauty and history of the caves.
